Souvenirs of Dissent -- Artists' Protest
Summary
"This exhibition of images and text drawn, from a variety of different archives, is an arbitrary representation of an activity in the art-world. Assembling this collection, we inevitably focused in the role of the archive in the construction of history and ideas. Submitting to the impulse of collecting, cataloguing, commenting on and exhibiting the souvenirs of research, we self-consciously constructed a short history of artist activists events. The exhibition process overlays levels of narrative and metaphor with the translation of the archival record into an object for exhibition." - foreword
